Look out for landscaping: Steve Beams, with Gilroy’s Engineering Division, contacted the Red Phone Thursday to let it know that the Santa Teresa Boulevard landscape median grading, including curbs, is under way. The Red Phone wanted to pass the information along, as it has received a few calls about the landscaping on that project.
“Imagine the 18″ stamped concrete mow strip, the stamped diagonal concrete with the landscape, uplighting in trees in the center … my mind is already envisioning the finished product out there and I’m excited,” Beams said.
Wet news: “My newspaper was wet– again – from the lawn sprinklers. Why don’t you put it in a plastic bag?”
Circulation manager Walt Glines asks that you call him so that he can discuss the problem with the carrier. Glines, who can be reached at 842-2327, invites other readers with similar problems to call as well, so that the circulation department can better meet the needs of customers.
The newspapers are not supposed to be thrown on a subscriber’s lawn (unless the reader requests it) to avoid this problem. Circulation does bag the papers when rain or showers are in the forecast.
Named twice: “You guys have to make everything juicy. It’s pretty sick putting Jeff Garner’s name in the police blotter even though he was on the front page murdered. That’s pretty messed up. Who’s idea was this? They couldn’t just leave it out, they had to put it out there to make the paper juicier and for others to see what kind of bad guy he was. That’s messed up.”
• “I’m calling because in the paper, Jeff Lamar Garner, it said he’s wanted for burglary. But I see on the front page Jeff Lamar Garner was killed Sunday. So I want to know if that person’s related? Thank you very much.”
Not everyone reads all the stories in each day’s paper, so at the time, it was the editor’s decision to run both the front page article on Jeff Garner’s murder and his Friday arrest in the police blotter. We apologize if you were offended.
Have your say! What do you think about the Santa Teresa Boulevard widening project? Is it all worth it in the end? And how about the Fourth of July … what did you think about the Independence Rally and the Dispatch’s coverage of Fourth events? Just let the Red Phone know. But remember to leave a name and number when you call or e-mail. The Red Phone won’t publish your information – it will only be used if verification is necessary. Contact the Red Phone at 842-9070 or e-mail
