GILROY – Christopher High School principal John Perales today officially named Timothy Pierleoni the Cougars first-ever head football coach.

“We had a very strong pool of candidates and Coach Pierleoni rose to the top,” Perales said. “I’m impressed with his deep understanding of football and his commitment to build character and academics as the top priorities in our football program. I’m excited to welcome Coach Pierleoni and believe he will take our program to the next level almost immediately.”

Most recently, Pierleoni, who has coached football for more than 25 years, helped launch the 8-man football program at Anchorpoint Christian School in Gilroy in 2006. Under his leadership, the Warriors were two-time Coastal Athletic League champions, with a 12-5 overall record.

Prior to coaching the Warriors, Pierleoni was the offensive coordinator at Gilroy High for six years – four of which the Mustangs were the top offensive team in their league.

Pierleoni also spent fivers years as defensive coordinator at Gavilan College. During his tenure, the Rams were Coast Conference champions each year, had the number one defense in the nation in 1993 and played in four junior college bowl games, winning three.

“This is extremely exciting,” Pierleoni said. “Sure it will be challenging, but I’ve been preparing for this opportunity since I started coaching. It’s the right time for me and my family. I’m looking forward to it.”

Born in Buffalo, New York, Pierleoni spent his teen years in Gilroy and graduated from GHS. As a defensive end and an offensive tackle for the Mustangs, he was a member of teams with several distinctions including winning the Junior Varsity Conference Championships, the first team in 10 years to make the Central Coast Section playoffs and the only GHS football team to finish 10-0.

After graduating, Pierleoni played linebacker and tight end for Gavilan under the legendary Bobby Garcia. He was named Gavilan’s Athlete of the Year and first team all-conference his freshman and sophomore years. He went on to play linebacker at East Bay University (formerly University of California at Hayward), where he was also an all-conference player.

Currently, Pierleoni lives in Gilroy with his wife, Jennifer, and their four kids. He teaches English, math, history, physical education and bible class at Anchorpoint.
