GILROY – Gilroy High golf coach Eric Kuwada is hoping to see some improvement between now and the end of the season.
“It’s pretty much the same team and we’re pretty much shooting the same scores as last year,” Kuwada said.
Unfortunately for the Mustangs, who placed third in two league events and fourth in another entering this past Tuesday’s Tri-County Athletic League Tournament, the rest of the TCAL is as strong as ever.
“180 is Par and [Palma and Hollister] are shooting 185, 186,” Kuwada said. “They’re tough.”
Averaging about 10 more strokes per meet than third-place Salinas, Gilroy has a chance to close the gap with improved play. Top players such as Jonathan Higgins and Tyler Park could lead the way. Last season Higgins qualified for the end of the year Central Coast Section Championships.
“They’re gonna have to cut a few strokes to get those individual qualifying scores at league finals,” Kuwada said.
