Community Pulse: Reinstate city BBQ for $13K?

Should the City Council vote to spend $13,000 to reinstate the
city employee BBQ?
THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:

Should the City Council vote to spend $13,000 to reinstate the city employee BBQ?

Yes: 0 No: 11

â–  Oh, yeah, how would that look … we employees love to feel appreciated by being fed, and it makes everyone feel happy – but that could pay an employee’s salary – poorly but it’s a salary! So I don’t think so!

â–  No, that sounds like a lot of money for a BBQ. They should do something for employee moral and recognition but on a smaller scale in these tough economic times.

■ Ridiculous. How does it benefit the citizens of Gilroy and not just the employees, and how long has this BBQ been in place? If it is a tradition, some traditions need to be reassessed in terms of cost, given the purpose of a City Council and the reason why they hold their positions – to be accountable to the citizens who elected them into office.

â–  $13,000???? For a BBQ? I say positively no unless they rename it The City BBQ and we ALL get to go!

â–  No. Money is better spend reinstating employee work hours.

â–  No. Perhaps they should schedule a city pot luck!
