Jeanne Baumgartner, an English teacher tapped to work at Christopher High School, will also be the school’s cheerleading advisor, according to a district press release.

Baumgartner previously served as a cheerleading adviser at Gilroy High School for six years and assisted for an additional three years, taking teams to perform at various professional football games and national competitions. She has also taught English at Gilroy High School for the past 11 years.

“Mrs. Baumgartner has the experience to build a cheerleading team that will help establish school pride from the very first day,” said CHS Principal John Perales. “We’re lucky to have her take on the additional role of adviser.”

Baumgartner felt similarly lucky to have been named to the position.

“I have always been fortunate to have cheerleaders and parents who worked very hard with positive attitudes,” Baumgartner said. “I always felt very supported, which is imperative to run an effective program.”

The new high school in north Gilroy is set to open to freshmen and sophomores this fall.

Baumgartner, will hold junior varsity and mascot tryouts May 12-15 at the Solorsano Middle School gym, 7121 Grenache Way. Information packets will be available in the District Office, 7810 Arroyo Circle in Gilroy, beginning March 30.
