The blaze that started with a vehicle fire on Highway 152 near Dinosaur Point Road shortly after 2:15 p.m. Saturday is now 70 percent contained with 1,650 acres burned, said George Hoyt, a spokesman for Calfire’s Santa Clara County unit.
He noted how authorities reopened Highway 152 around midnight after firefighters had controlled spot fires on the south side of the road. The California Highway Patrol had closed Highway 152 in both directions after 7 p.m. As of this morning, there are two eastbound lanes and one westbound lane open, Hoyt said.
Calfire crews now are fighting the blaze on the north side of the highway and have about a half mile of fire line – the cleared area that surrounds it – to finish at this point, he said.
Calfire has 16 engines, five hand crews, three helicopters, four bulldozers, three water tankers and a total of 389 personnel working the fire, Hoyt said.
