A man who was driving under the influence and killed four Gilroy residents–three of them in high school–was sentenced to 14 years in prison this week.Â
Anthony James Imbronene III, 24, Â was sentenced to just under the maximum 15 years for the crash on Leavesley Road, east of New Avenue last May, after Superior County Court Judge Edward Lee, heard testimony from the victims’ family members.
Imbronone apologized to the victims’ families during his sentencing hearing Monday morning at the South County Courthouse in Morgan Hill.
The accident occurred May 12, 2015 at 10:30 p.m., killing 18-year-olds Yesenia Mendoza Pina, Yolanda Jimenez and Sara Williams and 24-year-old Joseph Vasquez Flemate.
On the night of the crash, Imbronone was driving a 1997 Ford Mustang and lost control, according to the California Highway Patrol. landing in a drainage ditch, where the passengers were pronounced dead. He was hospitalized for several days with injuries.
Officers found an open container of alcohol, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, according to the CHP.
