According to MLB.com, the Tampa Bay Rays signed catcher and Gilroy native Chris Gimenez to a Minor League deal along with an invitation to spring training.
Gimenez, who graduated from Gilroy High in 2001, made his Major League debut in 2009 with the Cleveland Indians, appearing in 45 games that season. His most recent stint in the Majors came with the Seattle Mariners during the 2011 season. After recovering from a strained oblique, which landed him on the 60-day disabled list, Gimenez appeared in 24 games with the Mariners and hit .203 with one home run and six RBIs.
