The Christopher High girls soccer team closed out the Monterey Bay League regular season with a 0-0 draw at Pajaro Valley on Thursday night.
The second-place Cougars (11-6-2 overall, 8-2-2 MBL) await their fate in the Central Coast Section playoff seeding, which will be unveiled this weekend.
BOYS SOCCER
Needing a win to give itself a chance at receiving at at-large bid into the Central Coast Section playoffs, the Gilroy High boys soccer team took on second-place Salinas at The Pit on Thursday night.
Head coach Armando Padilla called the match exciting to the very end. However, the Mustangs (8-11-1 overall, 5-6-1 Tri-County Athletic League) came up short against the Cowboys, 3-2.
Salinas (13-4-1 overall, 7-2-3 TCAL) led 1-0 at halftime. Adolfo Rodriguez from David Valencia even the score 1-1 in the second half. Salinas rattled off a pair of unanswered goals to take a 3-1 advantage. Jonathan Diaz De Leon deposited his 19th of the season from Javier Alejo to get it back to a one-goal deficit.
The 19 goals is a career high for the senior Diaz De Leon.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
A double-digit fourth quarter advantage went by the wayside and a buzzer beater ended ended the Gilroy High girls basketball team’s season 56-55 against Salinas on Thursday night in Gilroy.
The Mustangs (11-12 overall, 5-7 Tri-County Athletic League) had won four of their last five games after a slow start had the defending league champs at 1-5 midway through the league season.
