The Gilroy Police Department plans to conduct a DUI a driver’s license checkpoint on June 8 between the hours of 9 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. at an undisclosed location within the city.

Those caught driving drunk can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, court probation and other expenses that can exceed $10,000, according to a press release from the GPD.

“The police department is always committed to traffic safety, and a major part of these checkpoints are that they raise awareness in the community,” said Sgt. Chad Gallacinao.

“Especially with summer coming, it’s important that we conduct checkpoints,” Gallacinao said.
