Gilroy Elks Lodge #1567, as part of the Elks National Youth Week, honored eight graduating seniors from Gilroy and Morgan Hill for their achievements and awarded $6,500 in scholarships last month.

Sobrato High School senior Ernest Yip and Live Oak High School senior Christina Avina were the big winners of the evening with each receiving $1,000 from the Gilroy Elks, $800 from the California-Hawaii Elks Association and $400 from the West Central District Elks Association. 

Live Oak High School Senior Abrianna Robles was close behind as she received $1,000 from the Gilroy Elks, $800 from the California-Hawaii Elks Association and $200 from the West Central District Elks Association.  Other recipients included Live Oak High School seniors Derek Satterlee, Jacqueline Protsman and Wendy Carmona who each received $500 from the Gilroy Elks. 

Paulina Vo-Griffin and Martin Ettema, members of the first graduating class at Christopher High School each received $1,000 from the Gilroy Elks.

These students, their families and Live Oak High School Scholarship Coordinator Jan Bergkamp enjoyed dinner and the awards presentation as guests of the Gilroy Elks.
