Gilroy native Marcel Brinson recently signed his letter of intent to play football for Minot State University in North Dakota.
Brinson, who attends Palma High School, was a starting defensive back/safety on the Chieftains’ Division IV Central Coast Section championship team this past season. The 6-foot, 185-pound first team Tri-County Athletic League selection totaled 82 tackles his senior season and was also named to the Salinas Californian and Monterey County Herald All-County Team.
Minot State made the move from a NAIA institution and will play as a NCAA Division II program for the first time in the fall. The beavers are part of the Dakota Athletic Conference.
Marcel is the son of Sherida and Marlowe Brinson. His father is the founder of the Myles Brinson-JR Adams Football Camp, organized and run in honor of Marcel’s brother Myles, who died of leukemia 10 years ago at the age of 8, and close family friend JR Adams, the son of Anchorpoint Christian coach and athletic director KC Adams, who died in a car accident three years later. Marcel volunteers his time as a coach each year at the camp and has kept close ties with peers in Gilroy, despite attending school in Salinas.
The Brinson family wants to thank the Gilroy community for all of its continued and unwavering support throughout the years.
