After several months of closed-to-the-public talks and meetings with a City Council subcommittee, Council will vote during their regular meeting Monday night on whether to give the city clerk a merit raise.Â
Pointing to City Clerk Shawna Freel’s performance, the Council subcommittee – made up of Council members Dion Bracco, Cat Tucker and Mayor Al Pinheiro – recommend that Freels receive a 3 percent salary raise effective Jan. 1.Â
A 3 percent raise would boost Freel’s annual salary from $99,653 to $102,643 – a $2,989 yearly increase.Â
Freels’ last raise was in January 2009, when her salary got a 5 percent boost.Â
Freels became a Master Municipal Clerk in March, an advanced clerk certification process administered by a statewide clerk association, and was honored with a plaque during a Council meeting for this achievement in June.Â
