New Year's Eve shooting

Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 55-year-old San Benito County man on New Year’s Eve after he had been suspected of threatening family members with a shotgun and firing one round into the ceiling of the residence, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

At about 8:43 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to the report of a family disturbance in the 6000 block of Frye Lane, which is just south of Shore Road and east of San Felipe Road. While in route, dispatch advised them that a male had been armed with a gun and fired shots, according to the statement.

When they arrived, a family member had disarmed the suspect, Jose G. Heredia, who they arrested without incident.

Investigators alleged that Heredia had threatened family members and fired one round into the ceiling.

Deputies recommended charges of attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm, threatening to terrorize and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
