The Monterey Bay League softball co-champion Christopher High (19-7) received the sixth seed into the Central Coast Section Division II playoffs and will host a first round game Wednesday.

In town will be No. 11 Pioneer (15-12) for a 4 p.m. first pitch. This is the Cougars’ second straight CCS playoff berth. Last season, in Division III, CHS bested Pacific Grove at home before falling to Capuchino in the quarterfinals.

A victory for the Cougars would pit them against No. 3 seed Valley Christian (22-5), which received a first round bye.

No stranger to the postseason, Gilroy High softball, which has played in three of the last four CCS Division I title games, will make its debut at Division II (division placement is based on enrollment) as the No. 12 seed. The Mustangs (12-13) will have a short trip north to Sobrato High in Morgan Hill to challenge the No. 5 Bulldogs (17-5) on Wednesday. That game is also at 4 p.m.

A win for GHS, which is on the opposite side of the bracket as CHS, means a date with either No. 4 Los Altos or No. 13 Willow Glen. Mitty received the No. 1 seed and Westmont No. 2.

Also getting good news Saturday was the CHS baseball team. The Cougars (19-8) earned the program’s first postseason berth, landing as the No. 9 seed in Division II. They will take on No. 8 Leland on the road at 4 p.m. on Thursday. Willow Glen is the No. 1 seed.
