Gilroy native Lori Borgna-Strong is recognized by Gen. Anne E. Dunwoody for supporting her husband, Maj. Gen. Randolph P. Strong, and Army families through 34 years of service.

A Gilroy native and her husband have recently been honored by the Army for their service to the nation and its soldiers.

Lori Borgna-Strong (the daughter of Primo and Carla Borgna who are long-time Gilroy residents) and her husband Maj. Gen. Randolph P. Strong, were recognized Feb. 9 in a ceremony on Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

Borgna-Strong received the Commander’s Award for Public Service from Gen. Anne E. Dunwoody, the Army’s highest ranking female officer, for her outstanding service as a volunteer and community leader supporting the quality of life for soldiers and their families

from 2009 to 2012. During that time, her husband, Maj. Gen. “Randy” Strong served as the commander of the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command.

Dunwoody said Borgna-Strong’s “dedication and spirit of volunteerism are in keeping with the highest traditions of selfless service.”

Borgna-Strong earned a certificate of appreciation from the Army for her “unfailing support and understanding which contributed significantly to her husband’s career.”

Maj. Gen. Strong retired Feb. 9 after 34 years of Army service. In addition to commanding Communications-Electronics Command in his career, Strong had been the Army’s 33rd Chief of Signal, the leader of his Army career field.  He also had commanded two installations, Fort Gordon, Ga., and Fort Monmouth, N.J.  

Dunwoody lauded Strong’s impact on the Army and the nation and presented him the Distinguished Service Cross for exceptionally meritorious service throughout his career.  

He also received personal congratulations on his retirement from President Barack Obama. Obama wrote, “In your career, you have looked beyond your own comfort and safety to protect the lives and way of life of those you may never meet.”
