For the third time this season victory over Salinas eluded the Gilroy High baseball team by the slimmest of margins in a 5-4 loss Tuesday at GHS.

The Cowboys (14-9 overall, 10-4 Tri-County Athletic League) claim the season series over the Mustangs (5-12, 3-10) by a combined five runs, including 6-4 and 4-2 results earlier in the season.

Gilroy and Salinas each collected 10 hits Tuesday. The Cowboys overcame a 2-0 deficit in the fourth to tie matters at 2-2 then scored three times in the fifth to harness a lead they never relinquished.

Jalynd Gallardo went 3 for 4 with on RBI, Ryan Alba had two hits and two RBIs, and Marcus Medina had three hits for the Mustangs.

GHS is at Alisal on Friday with a 4 p.m. first pitch scheduled.

VOLLEYBALL

Gilroy High (19-12 overall, 12-3 Tri-County Athletic League Valley Division) swept Alisal 3-0 on Tuesday night. The Mustangs wrap up the regular season at Christopher High on Thursday night. That match is slated for 6:30 p.m. GHS will participate in the four-team TCAL finals next week, where it will look to defend its league championship.

• The Cougars were victorious in four games against Salinas on Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

Playing its second of four straight games this week, Gilroy High (8-5 overall, 4-3 TCAL) eased past Alisal 15-1 on Tuesday. The Mustangs host nonleague opponent and section power Mitty today at 4 p.m., then close the week on the road at Notre Dame on Thursday.
