Lawrence (Larry) Whitaker passed away March 26, 2017 in Apple Valley, CA due to cardiopulmonary arrest. He was born in Altadena, CA Oct. 5, 1935. At 12 years old Larry professed faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was devoted to him throughout his life.
He spent 24 years in the US Navy, which included serving on the first Polaris (nuclear powered) submarine. He was a graduate of San Jose State University and was a member of the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi. After retiring from the Navy he worked for Lockheed for 20 years as UK Programs Systems Engineer in Sunnyvale, CA.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Whitaker, sons Rodney Whitaker (Kersten), Larry Whitaker, and daughter Susan Johnson (Dave), eight grandchildren, sisters Jean Fincham (Bud) and Gail Willett (Conrad), along with an aunt, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. The memorial service for Larry will be held on Friday, April 14th at 11:00am at Life Point Baptist Church 12247 Navajo Road, Apple Valley, CA 92308.
