Four survive crash, 150-foot fall
Gilroy – A car carrying three teenagers and a 2-month-old infant overturned down a steep embankment on U.S. Highway 152 early Saturday morning, but because everyone was wearing their seat belts, there were no major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Linda J. Virrueta, 18, of Madera, was driving a 2000 Dodge Neon eastbound near Dinosaur Point about 12:04am Saturday when she thought she saw something ahead of her, the CHP report said. Virrueta, who was reportedly “fatigued,” swerved sharply to the left and struck the concrete divider. The collision caused her to lose control of the Neon, which veered off the south side of the road and flipped over multiple times down a 150-foot ravine.
Virrueta, two females ages 13 and 16, and the infant girl appeared to have only minor to moderate injuries but were airlifted to Stanford Medical Center and were expected to fully recover.
Two airlifted after Hwy. 152 crash
Gilroy – Two men were airlifted to Stanford Medical Center following a crash on Highway 152 Saturday afternoon.
Adolfo Aguilar Nieto, 71, of Santa Clara, driving a 2000 Chevy, was approaching the highway from the south on a private road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Nieto pulled out in front of Ricardo Dejeronimo Flores, 32, of San Jose, who was driving a 1990 Honda eastbound on the highway. The front of Flores’ car collided with the left side of Nieto’s, causing moderate injuries to both men, who were lifted by CALSTAR to Stanford.
New supe for MH school district
Morgan Hill – School district trustees have chosen Alan Nishino as the new superintendent.
Nishino, now superintendent of the Alameda Unified School District, is in the midst of negotiating a contract with the district to replace Carolyn McKennan as of July 1.
The decision was unanimous, School Board President Shellé Thomas said. She said trustees talked with about 30 people before making the decision.
The board received 21 applications for the position. Six of the applicants interviewed with the board and an advisory committee made up of community members and representatives from the district. Three candidates took part in second interviews.
McKennan, who has been superintendent since 1997, did not seek a contract extension.
