CALLER 1: I was calling to remind you to put in the girls’ volleyball scores for the junior varsity team. They’ve won all their games this week and they’re doing awesome. Thanks.

GREEN PHONE: Caller, thanks for the reminder. Check back for our coverage of scheduled Mustang girls’ volleyball games, as well as in our period GHS roundups for JV results in addition to varsity.

CALLER 2: It’s Friday, Sept. 2. In your Sports section

on B3 you’ve got a big headline that says, “Agassi Toppels Croation Giant.” You might want to check the spelling … it’s “Croatian,” not Croation.” That’s pretty embarrassing.

GREEN PHONE: Caller 2, we are embarrassed, and you were not alone in catching that error. Read on …

CALLER 3: Yeah, it’s Friday morning and I’m looking at the Sports page, it’s Sept. 2. On B3, you’ve got “Agassi Toppels Croation Giant.” Well, Croatian is spelled C-R-O-A-T-I-A-N, Croa-shun, not Croa-shon. So my family’s Croatian and they’re pretty P.O.’d. So maybe you might want to do spell-check in the future, or go back to school.

GREEN PHONE: Callers, we apologize for the stupid error in that headline … keen readers may have also noticed that we misspelled the word “topples” in that headline as well, so double the egg on our face. Certainly, no offense was ever intended towards Croatia or Croatians (or to any topplers or topplees) … and we assure you that the offending headline writer has been rapped on the knuckles for that one.

CALLER 4: I think (Jerry) Rice should go to the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a San Francisco 49er.

GREEN PHONE: Come on now, Caller 4! Jerry Rice is a Seattle Seahawk for life! Just kidding. Obviously, Rice will go into the Hall of Fame as a San Francisco 49er. Talk of a ceremonial one-day contract so the legendary wide receiver can retire as a Niner has already started.

CALLER 5: I’m calling about your write up on Gilroy High’s JV football game. You have it wrong in here. Travis Reyes did get two touchdowns but Tony Travis also made a TD.

The QB, Steven Martinez, came in for a quarterback sneak. He threw a TD but he also ran in for the 2-point conversion and Stephen Gutierrez did not make any touchdowns.

GREEN PHONE: Apologies to Tony Travis, Caller 5. We spoke with junior varsity football coach Jack Daley and he informed us that indeed, it was Travis, not Gutierrez, who caught a TD pass from Steven Martinez.
