Gilroy – The school district’s web site received a face lift over the weekend. Anyone who visited Gilroy Unified School District’s home page after Saturday noticed that the new site is more user friendly and aesthetically pleasing.

Despite a few lingering kinks, such as pages that refuse to open with the click of a mouse, or e-mail addresses that bounce messages back to the sender – district officials are hoping the new site increases communication with parents and will serve as a resource of information for community members.

“We wanted to create a place where people could answer questions quickly,” said Juanita Contin who serves as the GUSD’s Coordinator Parent Involvement, Communication and Enrollment.

While the change appears to have happened overnight, it is the result of more than a year of preparation and planning.

To market the district’s accountability plan, GUSD officials partnered with individuals from the Stupski Foundation to find methods of how to promote the plan: An upgraded Web site was one of the suggestions.

One of the most obvious change is the appearance – it resembles a Web site of a school district on the cutting edge of technology, instead of buried underneath it.

“It looks more aligned with what people are accustomed to seeing,” Contin explained.
