Gilroy – The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association is now accepting contestant applications for the 28th Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival Queen Pageant. Packets are available at the Garlic Festival office, 7473 Monterey St.

Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival Queen Pageant is a scholarship pageant in which contestants are judged on personal interview, speech, talent and evening gown. In addition to the selection of Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival Queen, scholarships will be awarded to many pageant contestants.

Applicants must be a resident of Gilroy, San Martin, Morgan Hill, Hollister, San Juan Bautista or Aromas; a single female who has never been married and has no children; a high school graduate by June 2006; and between the ages of 18 to 24 by July 2006. Deadline to enter is March 17 at 4:30pm.

The Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival Pageant is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, at 7pm at the Gavilan College Theater.

Craft sharing at the Gilroy Library

Gilroy – Have a craft project gathering dust? Need some extra motivation getting started on a new craft? Bring craft tools & supplies – sewing machine, glue guns, knitting needles, scrapbooks, fabric, crochet hooks, beads, yarn, etc. to the Gilroy Library for an evening of craft sharing. Meet other crafty people; swap supplies and expertise. Ages teen through adult only. Gilroy crafter extraordinaire, Cindy Boden, will offer her guidance. Drop-in any of these Wednesday evenings, from 6:30 to 9pm: Feb. 15, March 1 and March 15.

Live music series continues

Gilroy – Sue’s Coffee Roasting Company presents Clay Riley, an aspiring violinist and composer, originally classically trained, who dabbles in other genres, like jazz, Celtic, etc. Will be accompanied by Mack on the Piano. The free concert runs from 7 to 9pm Friday and is a part of Sue’s Friday Night Live Music Series.

Crab feed benefits scholarships, charities

Gilroy – A crab feed, hosted by the Knights of Columbus Council 2469, takes place Saturday at St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Happy Hour is at 6pm followed by the crab feed at 7pm. Food will be prepared by chef Joe Peralta and local group “The Corvairs” will provide music for dancing.

Proceeds from this event will benefit Knights of Columbus scholarships and other charitable activities. Tickets are $35 each and are available at the Parish Office at 55 First St. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Class For hairstylists and makeup artists

Gilroy – Prominent makeup artist Rose Hill will be the featured educator Monday, Feb. 27 at 6:30pm at Gavilan College. A popular platform artist, Hill will demonstrate her successful techniques and fashion trends on models as well as volunteer members of the audience. As a leader in the profession her client list includes prominent actors, politicians and musicians. Her work has been featured on television, film and in fashion and industry magazines. She is known as “The Makeup Artist to the Famous.”

Because of the high level of interest for this class the sponsors have agreed to open it to the general public as well as the salon professionals and students.
