Q: What are tripod fish? Do they really have legs?
A: Tripod fish live on the ocean floor. They have very tiny eyes, and scientists think they detect their prey by sensing vibrations. All tripod fish have both male and female sex organs.
The “legs” on the fish aren’t really legs at all but elongated fin-rays on which the fish stand on the ocean floor. Tripod fish face into the current and spread their other fins out.
