South Valley Symphony violin, cellist players needed

– The South Valley Symphony is in need of first and second
violin players to participate in their upcoming concerts of April 2
and June 2 POPS concert which will be held at the Bonfante Gardens
amphitheater according to Henry Mollicone conductor of the
symphony. Additionally, we are also in dire
need of viola and cellists to perform with the community
orchestra according to Mollicone.

The symphony holds rehearsals Wednesdays at 7:30pm in band room B-7 at the Ascension Solorsano Middle School, 7121 Grenache Way.

Associates needed for Bonfante
Gilroy – Bonfante Gardens Family Theme Park will be accepting applications and conducting on-site interviews for the 2006 season during the park’s annual job fair Saturday, Feb. 4 from 11am to 4pm. The job fair is open to both rehires and new applicants at least 15 years of age.
Bonfante Gardens Family Theme Park will be hiring nearly 500 seasonal associates in a variety of departments. Interviews will be conducted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Applicants should enter through Bonfante Gardens’ front entrance and follow the signs to the Events Plaza.

Annual spaghetti dinner
Gilroy – The Gilroy High School Choir will be hosting their annual Spaghetti Dinner on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 5 to 8pm at the Brownell Middle School Gym. Cost is $5 for adults, $4 for children. Take-out available. All proceeds benefit the award-winning Gilroy High School Choirs.
SV Symphony concert
Gilroy – Youth will highlight the family concert of the South Valley Symphony performance of Saturday, Feb. 11, at 4pm at the Gavilan College Theater.
Tickets are now available at Porcella’s Music and Accessories and Estate Furniture in downtown Gilroy; Carole’s Hallmark store located at 779 First Street in Gilroy. In Morgan Hill, tickets are available at Booksmart at 17415 S. Monterey Road. In Hollister, tickets are available at the Sunday Pinnacle and in San Juan Bautista at Mission Gallery. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors age 55 and over and for students ages 9-12 $8. Tickets will also be available at the theater box office 45 minutes prior.
Craft sharing at the library
Gilroy – Have a craft project gathering dust? Need some extra motivation getting started on a new craft? Bring your craft tools & supplies – sewing machine, glue guns, knitting needles, scrapbooks, fabric, crochet hooks, beads, yarn, etc. to the Gilroy Library for an evening of craft sharing. Meet other crafty people; swap supplies and expertise. Ages teen through adult only. Gilroy crafter extraordinaire, Cindy Boden, will offer her guidance. Drop-in any of these Wednesday evenings, from 6:30 to 9pm: Feb. 15, March 1 and March 15.

A voice for animals essay contest
Gilroy – High school students are invited to enter the Humane Education Network’s annual essay contest. Students must submit a double-spaced, thousand word manuscript that examines either the mistreatment of one animal species or a cause of animal suffering and possible measures to reduce it.
First prize is $500, second $250, third $100. Deadline is March 2. Results will be announced May 31.

Class for hairstylists and makeup artists
Gilroy – Prominent makeup artist Rose Hill will be the featured educator on Monday, Feb. 27 at 6:30pm at Gavilan College. Hill will demonstrate her successful techniques and fashion trends on models as well as volunteer members of the audience. As a leader in the profession her client list includes prominent actors, politicians and musicians.
The class is open to the general public, professionals and students.
