Gilroy – Hundreds of middle school students from throughout the Bay Area will spend Saturday dissecting cow’s eyeballs, building race cars and even concocting their own slime, at Gavilan College’s Science Alive fair.
Check in for the all-day event begins at 8am and participants will attend 19 workshops focused on math, science and technology. “A Cow’s Eye View,” wherein students learn how an eye works by dissecting a cow eyeball is one of the more popular workshops at the annual event.
Students also spend part of the day building a functioning race car using common house hold items such as mousetraps and CDs.
Parents will also be able to participate in workshops “Financial Aid: Money for College,” and “Preparation for High School and College: What Parents Should Know,” in both Spanish and English. A keynote speaker will address the crowd with a speech titled “Flames, Flares and Explosions.” The event will wrap-up at 2:30pm.
