Gilroy teams meet in championship in NSA 12-B World Series Qualifier Tournament

The Gilroy Chaos 12U White (made up of 12-year-olds) and the Gilroy Chaos 12U Blue (made up of 11-year-olds) met in the championship game last weekend in the Fremont NSA 12-B World Series Qualifier Tournament.

Championship Game: Gilroy Chaos (White) 6 Gilroy Chaos (Blue) 3

Stephanie Rodriguez took the mound for Chaos White (pitching 5.1 innings and allowing only two runs), and Aly Olvera went for the Chaos Blue (pitching 3.1 innings). The Chaos White team took an early 3-0 lead when Stephanie Gomez had a two-RBI single and Lisa Woodson added an RBI single.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Chaos White rallied again to score two more runs with another RBI by Woodson and a sacrifice hit by Elaina Vasquez. But in the top of the fourth, the Chaos Blue responded with their bats. After consecutive hits to leadoff the inning by Casey Lester and Serena Sandoval, Ashlee Williams hit the first pitch to center field for a double to make it a 5-2 game.

In the bottom of the forth inning after two walks, Alex Duarte had an RBI double for the White. Lester scored on a passed ball for the Blue team to end the scoring at 6-3 after four innings of play. Lester and Woodson finished the game on the mound for their teams.

“Seeing both teams in championship play was awesome,” said Chaos White coach James Jimenez. “It almost happened in last week’s tournament. The Blue team fell one game short for championship play, and the White team took second place in that tournament. But we knew it would eventually happen. Both teams are great with awesome talent and awesome coaches. It’s only the beginning of a softball summer.”

Semifinal Game: Gilroy Chaos (White) 11, Concord Glory 4

Celeste M. Jimenez pitched a complete five innings with five strikeouts. The Chaos jumped out early with a 6-0 lead in the first inning. Duarte (2-for-2), Gomez (3-for-3) and Woodson (3-for-3) combined for six RBIs. Sarah Ordaz had a head-first diving catch in left field.

Semifinal Game: Gilroy Chaos (Blue) 7, Calaveras Sliders (Gold) 5

Olvera and Lester pitched for Gilroy. Sarina Sandoval’s three-RBI double helped spark the Chaos flame when they were down 2-0. And Shawnte Garcia’s blast over the left fielder for two RBIs took the momentum away from the Sliders.

Gilroy Chaos (White) 8, South Bay Steal 1

Jimenez pitched four innings, allowing only one run with and striking out three. Chelsea Chillman’s (2-for-2) had a two-run home run to deep left field. Jasmine Guitterrez (2-for-2) had a single, double and scored two runs, and Rodriguez was 2-for-3.

Gilroy Chaos (Blue) 9, Concord Glory 5

Kalana Mah pitched four innings for the Chaos. Down 3-0 in the fourth inning, the Chaos worked out eight hits in the inning for the victory. Sarina Sandoval, Williams, Shawnte Garcia, Kaylana Mah, Amber Gamboa, Randi Rogers, Megan Lasiter and Olvera all had hits in the inning.

Gilroy Chaos (White) 5, Calaveras Sliders (Gold) 2

Woodson threw a complete five-inning game with 11 strikeouts. She also had a two-run home run. Ordaz was 1-for-1, Vasquez was 2-for-3 with two runs and Duarte was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Gilroy Chaos (Blue) 5, Calaveras Sliders (Gold) 3

The first game between the Sliders and Chaos Blue was the beginning of a sequel. Lester pitched four complete innings with four strikeouts. Shawnte Garcia’s had an RBI double in the first inning, Williams had an RBI double in the third inning and Marizza Lucio had a sacrifice RBI.

Gilroy Chaos (White) 5, Concord Glory 2

In the first game for the Chaos, Rodriguez threw a complete seven-inning game, allowing two runs. She had seven strikeouts and gave up only one hit. Offensively, she went 3-for-3 with two triples and two RBIs. Vasquez was 3-for-3 with a double and scored twice, and Duarte smashed a triple.

Gilroy Chaos (Blue) 6, South Bay Steal 0

Olvera threw a one-hit shutout in five innings of play. With excellent defense behind her, Olvera struck out three and kept the Steal offense off balance. Lester was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored two runs. Sandoval ripped a triple and Mah was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Gamboa was 1-for-1 with two RBIs.
