Forecasters expect temps 10 degrees warmer than usual this
week
Gilroy – Things to add to this week’s grocery list: Bottled water, electric fan, and sunscreen.
Forecasters are expecting Gilroy temperatures to rise until they’re about 10 degrees warmer than usual this week as thermometers reach triple digits Thursday and Friday.
“It looks like 101 should be the worst of it,” said meteorologist Diana Henderson of the National Weather Service. “It’s going to be hot.”
Forecasts show that the temperatures will begin warming today, the official first day of summer, and stay hot until Friday. By the weekend, a slight cooling is expected as temps drop into the lower 90s.
The average temperature in Gilroy this time of year is 84 degrees and 88 degrees in July.
Despite the heat wave, 101 degrees in June isn’t close to the record high set in 1961 with 112 degrees.
“Definitely pick up some water,” Henderson advised.
