Haircuts to benefit grieving family
Gilroy – Gilroy hairstylists are holding a cut-a-thon Sunday, Nov. 19 to benefit the family of 5-year-old Julio Gonzalez, who died in a traffic accident last week. The event will take place at the Hot Spot Salon, 8025 Kern Ave., hosted by salon owner Darlene Silva. Gavilan College cosmetology students will offer shampooing before haircuts and face-painting for kids. Raffle tickets are being sold for prizes donated by local businesses. Man fractures hip in highway accident
Gilroy – Thomas Pacheco, 31, of Santa Cruz, fractured a hip after veering left into the center median on Highway 101, at 2:26pm Tuesday. Pacheco was traveling southbound at 70 miles per hour near the Monterey Road exit when he lost control of the vehicle, a 1999 GMC Sierra. An ambulance transported him to Saint Louise Regional Hospital, where he was treated. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, which they say was not alcohol or drug-related.
Donations for homeless during winter
Gilroy – St. Joseph’s Family Center and Articulate Solutions are continuing their efforts to help keep the homeless in our community warm and dry throughout the winter. Donations needed to help purchase and assemble Winter Survival Kits. The kits will contain items that will be helpful during the cold winter months: water repellent sleeping bags and jackets, backpacks, knit caps and gloves, flashlights and sundries such as toothpaste, socks and soap.
Checks may be written out to St. Joseph’s Family Center. Please mark your check “Winter Survival Kit.” Donations may be mailed to St. Joseph’s, located at 7950 Church Street, Suite A in Gilroy or Articulate Solutions, located at 65 Fifth Avenue, Suite 100, also in Gilroy.

Third Annual Enchilada Fiesta
Gilroy – The Antonio Del Buono Violin program is holding their annual fundraiser dinner from 4 to 7pm Friday with a violin concert at 7pm. Tickets are $7 adults and $3 kids at the door. A silent auction and raffle will be held.

GHS basketball fundraiser
Gilroy – The GHS boys’ and girls’ basketball programs are proud to announce the 3rd Annual GHS Basketball Fundraiser Golf Tournament. Saturday, at the Gilroy Golf Course, noon. The cost is $85 per player. Fee includes 18 holes with cart, food and beverages on the course, barbecue dinner, awards and more.
