– The New Hope Community Church will hold services dedicated to “Remembering those we lost, honoring those who served” on Sunday. Services are at 9 and 11 a.m. at 8886 Muraoka Drive in Gilroy.
– Shadow Mountain Baptist Church will have a special service to remember the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, and to give thanks to the police, firefighters and other first responders in the community. The service begins 10:30 a.m. Sunday, and lunch follows. Shadow Mountain Baptist Church is at 17810 Monterey Road.
– The Morgan Hill Office of Emergency Services and emergency volunteers will conduct a community meeting at 1 p.m. Sunday both to remember the victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks, and to promote collective emergency preparedness through the grass-roots Map Your Neighborhood initiative. The meeting will be at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse, 17090 Monterey Road.
– Central Coast Dove and the Hollister Veterans Post 9242 will host a Sept. 11 memorial at the Hollister Veterans Building, 649 San Benito St., in Hollister. The memorial begins at 11:30 a.m. with a dove release at noon. For more available information, visit www.911DoveRelease.com
– The San Juan community will host a commemoration of the 10-year anniversary of Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to noon at the State Historic Park, on Second Street. VFW Post 6359 and Boy Scout Troop 428 will place the flags. Commander Felipe Galvan will lead the pledge of allegiance, “The Star-Spangled Banner” will be sung by Maribel De Alba and the Mission bells will ring 10 times. David Rios will play taps and Cuco Chavez will give an invocation. Mayor Andy Moore will welcome the crowd and Luis Valdez will deliver a keynote address. Firefighters and police officers will participate, as will schools and other local organizations. Refreshments will be served.
