‘The Nutcracker’ on stage at Antonio Del Buono

Antonio Del Buono Elementary School will perform “The Nutcracker” at 6:30 p.m. today in the school’s multipurpose room. The Nutcracker Festival, with food and festivities, will precede the performance at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free and all are invited to attend.

Range of music at GHS winter concert

The Gilroy High School Bands will begin their 2007 concert season with their Winter Concert in the GHS Theater at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13. Admission is free and will feature the talents of the 90 members of the GHS Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. The music will range from movie music to American folk tunes, to one piece that was written to describe an individual’s driving habits.

Westfield environmental impact to be discussed

‘Footloose’ dances onto Mount Madonna’s Stage

Mount Madonna School students will put on a production of ‘Footloose.’ The show will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday, at Mount Madonna School, 491 Summit Road, Watsonville. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for students 16 and younger.

GHS choir performs at horsemen’s meeting

The San Martin Horsemen’s Association will hold its December general meeting and holiday party at 7 p.m. Friday, at the San Martin Lions Club Hall, 12415 Murphy Ave., San Martin.

The Gilroy High School Choir will be performing. Turkey dinner and potluck. Members and guests welcome.

League accepting applications for director

The Theater Angles Art League, which recently celebrated 35 years of support for Gilroy’s visual and performing arts, is partnering with the Gilroy Foundation to fund a part-time, one-year position for Community Arts Project Director. The league is looking to fill the position with an individual who has a passion for promoting fine arts in South County and wants to serve the community in a leadership role in the current Gilroy Arts Center development process. The part-time position pays $15,000. To apply for the position, drop off a letter of intent and personal resume with Arline Silva at the Allstate Office at the corner of Third and Eigleberry Streets by 5 p.m. Friday.

Have breakfast with Santa Claus at Senior Center

Children between 3 and 12 are invited to spend the morning with Santa Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St. The fee is $12 ($14 for non-residents) to have breakfast, make crafts and take photos with Santa. Seating times: are 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.

Donate a warm coat to those in need

Sunday, local churches (St. Mary, South Valley Community, New Hope, First Baptist, Calvary Chapel, Gilroy Presbyterian and others) will make a big push to collect coats for those in need within our community. Please bring coats to the participating churches throughout this week and Sunday. The coats will be given out through the St. Joseph’s Christmas Sharing Event at First Baptist Church, Saturday, Dec. 22. Coats in all sizes and gender are needed (especially children and adult males).

Time of year to make a wish come true

The South Santa Clara County Fire District, Paid Call Firefighters have donation trees set up in many local banks and businesses for the 21st annual Make a Wish Come True, Make A Child Smile gift program. More than 2,200 gifts were collected for local children last year. Visit one of the 22 locations by Dec. 21 and donate a gift for a local needy child. Details: www.ssccfd.org.

Coyote Creek bird walk

A series of bird walks led by Jane Haley, a National Park Service docent for 20 years and Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center (W.E.R.C) volunteer, continues Jan. 5, 2008 from 9 to 11 a.m. along Coyote Creek, north of Morgan Hill. Participants will have an opportunity to observe migratory birds as well as discover an appreciation of local birds, their habitat and ecological importance. Due to the terrain, these walks are not recommended for young children. The programs are free, space is limited and reservations are required.

Practice for the SAT

Free practice for SAT at the Gilroy Library. Princeton Review will provide a free practice test and strategy session for high school students at the Gilroy Library, 7387 Rosanna St. Call or come in to sign up; space is limited. The test is Saturday, Feb. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the results are given at the strategy session on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
