“Hello, I would like to know why there is not a flag flying at the fire station on Sunrise Avenue. I don’t know why we can’t get a flag there.”

Red Phone: Dear Stars And Stripes Forever, The Sunrise Fire Station has a pole setup for a flag but the halyard and pulley system to raise the flag broke, said Fire Chief Dale Foster. The parts have been ordered and the installation is planned for this week, he said.

So look for Old Glory to return to the fire station in the near future.

The United States Flag Code, which sets up suggested guidelines for displaying the flag, says that it  “should be displayed daily on or near the main administration building of every public institution.”

However, the Flag Code is merely a recommendation, and there are no penalties for not following the guidelines.
