Christopher will attempt to break its playoff curse Wednesday at home when the Cougars volleyball team hosts San Mateo to open the Division II playoffs.
No. 8 Christopher has yet to win a playoff game in its short history as a program, going 0-4 dating back to the Cougars’ first appearance in 2012.
This year will mark the first time since its inaugural appearance in 2012 that Christopher will host a playoff game.
The Cougars will do so against a 9-14 San Mateo team that is seeded ninth after it took fifth in the Peninsula Bay League.
The Bearcats are led by a trio of hitters who combined for 532 kills, with junior Emily Savage leading the way with 183 kills followed by senior Alexa Carron with 181 kills and senior Lexus Kato-Lagumbay with 168.
The Bearcats played a tough schedule and never had a streak of more than three wins the whole season, and that came at the start of the season.
The match tips off at 7pm Wednesday at Christopher. The winner will travel to No. 1 seeded Mountain View Saturday at 7pm.
