A series of events are scheduled in November to honor local veterans.
The Veterans Day Ceremony, hosted by the VFW Post 6309, will be held Nov. 11 at 11:11am at the Gilroy Veterans Hall, 74 West Sixth St.
It’ll be followed by the Veterans Day Parade, presented by the South Santa Clara Valley Memorial District and the Gilroy Veterans Hall, at 1pm.
The parade will start at Seventh and Monterey streets and travel north to Fourth and Monterey streets.
6th Street Studios & Art Center, 64 West Sixth St., will host a Veteran’s Art Exhibit from Nov. 5-27, as well as an Art Walk on Nov. 18 from 5-8pm, where local veterans’ art will be on display at downtown businesses.
The Gilroy Center for the Arts, 7341 Monterey St., will also host a veterans exhibit from Nov. 3-30. This exhibit will feature memorabilia, mementos and photos provided by the Gilroy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6309 and veterans throughout the community.
A talk, titled “The Era of Competition: What is it and Why You Should Care,” is set for Nov. 10 at 6pm, hosted by 6th Street Studios & Art Center. The discussion, headed up by LCDR Rory Upright, USN, will cover U.S.-China relations, current competition, and how it impacts everyday life.
Upright is a PhD student, TOPGUN graduate, and combat-seasoned Naval
Flight Officer with more than 11 years of aviation experience.
His professional awards include multiple Navy commendation medals, an Army and an Air Force commendation medal, multiple Navy Achievement medals, numerous sea service ribbons, campaign and expeditionary warfare ribbons, and pistol and rifle expert marksman medals.
Admission is free for veterans and active duty military. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors, and are available on Eventbrite or at the door. Proceeds benefit 6th Street Studios.
