More than 1,200 wreaths will be placed on veterans’ graves in South County on Dec. 17, marking National Wreaths Across America Day, a movement to cover all veterans’ graves with a Christmas wreath.
This is the ninth annual effort in South County. Volunteers will gather at Gavilan Hills and St. Mary’s Cemeteries in Gilroy and Mt. Hope Cemetery in Morgan Hill to take part in the wreath laying ceremony.
Mark Turner, President/CEO of the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce and organizer of the local Wreaths Across America effort, said, “Heroes are not the ones who hit home runs, throw touchdowns and sink three-pointers.
