For its Spring Community Service Project, the Rotary Club of Gilroy provided more than 300 survival kits that were given to St. Joseph’s Family Center and the Compassion Center on March 21.
What originally started as a “sock drive” soon blossomed into a “survival kit drive” to expand the list of needs determined by both agencies. The kits included socks, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, soap and shampoo. Additional hygiene items, cash and gift cards were also donated.
“SJFC would like to thank the Gilroy Rotary Club for their recent donation of hygiene supplies to our agency,” St. Joseph’s Executive Director David Cox said. “The sheer quantity of what we received was impressive, but the sensitive coordination of this event was even more impressive. The Rotary Club sought input not only from our staff, but from those who are currently unhoused and/or homeless. This ‘lived experience’ perspective helped steer the effort in a meaningful, productive way. The Gilroy Rotary Club’s unwavering commitment and support is something we cherish.”
Rotary Club of Gilroy President Laura Brown added, “Our club is grateful to be able to help the unhoused in our community with these supplies.”
