When I started this campaign, I held the belief that Gilroy possesses untapped potential. Throughout the campaign, I engaged with numerous property and business owners, community leaders, city personnel, representatives of non-profit organizations and, most importantly, the citizens.

Gilroyans from all neighborhoods and interests are united by the high expectations they have for elected leaders and city staff. The overwhelming majority of Gilroyans believe that our city has the ability and an obligation to aspire to greater heights.

This is precisely the vision we will pursue. Our campaign was centered around five non-partisan action items that I am confident will garner broad consensus and are essential for Gilroy’s success:

• Restoration of City Hall customer service

• Enhancement of Gilroy’s economic development

• Revitalization of the Gilroy Garlic Festival

• Strengthening community engagement

• Development of practical housing solutions

As Mayor, I am committed to implementing these initiatives in a collaborative, transparent and expedient manner.

I will draw upon the invaluable experience of seasoned council members while valuing the fresh perspectives of the newer ones. City Hall management and staff can, and must, play a role in this new way forward.

Upon convening the new council, we will conduct a comprehensive review and renewal of Gilroy’s goals. We will forge a path guided by input from ALL council members and their constituents.

Our community’s success hinges on the collective experiences and contributions of all.

To those who supported our campaign, I extend my heartfelt gratitude. I am humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in me. I am truly grateful to the outgoing, incoming and current council members and city officials who have already expressed their well wishes for me as the next Mayor of Gilroy.

To those who did not support our campaign, my commitment to you is unwavering. While our perspectives may differ, I firmly believe we are unified in a common bond of love for Gilroy and the unincorporated areas within south Santa Clara County. Congratulations to the victorious council candidates.

I also send my gratitude to those members who will be assuming new roles. I recall the quote, “Nothing worthwhile comes without effort.” Reaching Gilroy’s full potential will require hard work, leadership, selfless sacrifice and the willingness to compromise.

I am honored and humbled to have been entrusted with the responsibility of serving as one of our elected leaders, guiding Gilroy forward. Over the next four years, I am committed to diligently working to not only meet your expectations, but to surpass them.

  1. Let’s publish the names of the (now defunct) Garlic Committee who squandered millions of dollars – notably defaulting on a mortgage for the old city hall building. Funds for the insurance bond (now required) for Garlic Festival would have been in the bank.

Who’s going to pay for the bond, Mr. Mayor? Perhaps property taxes from the Ten South (who you’re in cahoots with) high-density housing project? Strike that, the city taxpayers are also on the hook to pay for its infrastructure.

The property along Santa Teresa could have been developed into something beautiful, instead it’s an eyesore of cookie-cutter homes packed so densely (minimum code standards) that one could feel lost walking down the streets.

Millions of dollars have already been spent on downtown roads, sidewalks, and an $8,000,000 parking structure that residents avoid at night. What’s your revitalization proposal now?

And seriously, who’s going to take a four-mile bus ride to Christmas Hill Park for something that will be nothing more than a shadow of what it was?

  2. GB has to put together a major clean up effort of the whole city.

The area behind black bear diner reminds me of an old whorehouse in Vegas.

All that trash needs to be taken to the dump.

Talk to Santa Clara water & split the bill.

  3. Wait for the quid pro quo when Ten South comes again before the council. Your seat was bought and paid for. Hope you’re proud.
