Recently, I shared my concerns after hearing that Camino Coffee in downtown Gilroy was being offered for sale. Because I care deeply about our downtown and local businesses, I wanted to learn more and speak directly with owner Frank Oliver so I could better understand the situation and help keep the community informed.
Camino Coffee, which opened in 2024, has quickly become a valued part of our downtown. It has built a loyal customer base, assembled a dedicated staff and created a welcoming space for residents, commuters and visitors.
As someone who lives nearby, I will continue to support Camino Coffee and the many small businesses that help make our downtown vibrant and welcoming.
After speaking with Frank, it became clear that this is not a story about a business in decline. Rather, it is about growth, opportunity and the desire to take an already successful business to the next level.
Frank shared that he is exploring opportunities with investors or a future owner who can help expand the business and fully realize its potential. The property is already equipped for future enhancements, including additional food and beverage offerings, food trucks, community events and other amenities that could further strengthen downtown Gilroy as a destination.
This conversation also reminded me that many of our local business owners are constantly looking for ways to innovate, adapt and better serve our community. They are not only providing goods and services—they are helping shape the character and future of our downtown.
Every time we wish there were more places to eat, shop, gather or socialize, we should also remember to support the businesses already working hard to make that vision a reality. The future of downtown Gilroy depends not only on new investment, but also on our willingness to support those who have already invested in us.
I am also excited to share that Frank and I will be working together to host a Community Day at Camino Coffee in the near future. This will be an opportunity for residents to meet the owner, learn more about the vision for the business, ask questions and hear firsthand about the possibilities being explored. More details will be shared soon.
