Master Sommelier David Glancy will headline the fifth annual Vine to Wine celebration Sept. 19 at Santana Row Plaza, where the Wineries of Santa Clara Valley will showcase local wines, food and entertainment.
The event will feature more than 20 Santa Clara Valley wineries, live music, interactive experiences and a fundraising auction supporting the region’s wine industry, says a press release from Wineries of Santa Clara Valley.
Glancy, the founder and chief education officer of the San Francisco Wine School, will host a VIP reception from 4-5pm at Vintage Wine Bar. The reception will include sparkling wine, local wine tastings, light bites and an opportunity to meet Glancy. Attendance is limited to 125 guests.
Glancy will also lead the Grand Harvest Dinner, guiding guests through wine and food pairings with local winemakers while discussing the region’s vineyards, wines and agricultural history.
“David Glancy’s ability to make wine education engaging and accessible will bring an exciting new dimension to this year’s Vine to Wine,” said Stacy Giannini, executive director of the Wineries of Santa Clara Valley. “Guests will have the opportunity to learn from one of the country’s most respected wine educators while discovering the exceptional wines being produced here in the Santa Clara Valley.”
The main celebration runs from 5-9:30pm. Guests can sample wines from participating wineries and enjoy performances by Asher Stern during the VIP reception and Matt Masih & The Messengers during the main event, adds the press release.
The Grand Harvest Dinner will feature two paellas prepared live, along with tapas, salad and dessert. The event also will include a Cellar Bottle Spin, offering premium wines valued at $40-100 per bottle, and a live fundraising auction featuring travel experiences, wine packages and other items.
Proceeds from Vine to Wine support scholarships for aspiring enologists, viticulturists, winery professionals, wine educators and wine stewards, according to Wineries of Santa Clara Valley. Funds also support regional marketing and efforts to preserve and promote the Santa Clara Valley’s wine and agricultural heritage.
Glancy said the region’s winemaking history is featured in the California Wine Appellation Specialist certification program at the San Francisco Wine School.
“Santa Clara Valley has a remarkable winemaking history that we regularly feature in our California Wine Appellation Specialist certification program at San Francisco Wine School,” Glancy said. “I’m thrilled to be coming together to celebrate the past and present of this important region.”
The Wineries of Santa Clara Valley represents more than 30 wineries in the region, which was designated an American Viticultural Area in 1989.
Vine to Wine will be held Sept. 19 at Santana Row Plaza in San Jose. The VIP reception is 4-5pm, followed by the main event from 5-9:30pm. The live auction is scheduled for 7:30-8pm.
