Thanks CHP!
”
Hey Red Phone. I just want to say thank you to the California
Highway Patrol. On Saturday afternoon I finally saw somebody on
Watsonville Road and they had four of those race rocket motorcycles
stopped for speeding. I appreciate that patrol. The weekends are
terrible on Watsonville Road with those motorcycles. So I
appreciate them getting out there and doing their job. Thank
you.

Red Phone:
Thanks for the heads up, caller. Red Phone also thanks you for your previous calls regarding the lack of patrols on Watsonville Road. It’s pleased you saw an officer out there catching the speed demons.
To report motorcycle speeders, or any others, in that area, call the CHP at 848-2324.
Fitness photo
“Hi I’m calling about the front page article titled ‘Fitness Fatigue.’ I agree that childhood obesity needs to be addressed, no doubt. I’m just disgusted that the Dispatch didn’t have the courtesy or consideration for the kids featured on the front page. I guess you guys have no idea what these kids are going to go through seeing their pictures in there. That’s pretty sad Red Phone. I doubt this will be put in the paper, but surprise me. Thank you.”
Red Phone:
Are you surprised, good caller? The Red Phone hears and understands your concern – it too was once in junior high.
The article and photograph, of a physical education class walking the track, was simply meant to bring awareness of a serious epidemic occurring among our youngsters in Gilroy. At 31 percent, our city has the highest percent of overweight children in Santa Clara County. The Dispatch staff’s intention was to bring this to light, not to embarrass.
Noisy neighbors
“Hi, I have a body shop that’s moved in behind my house about six months ago and I’ve been having a lot of problems with noise and such. I don’t know who to contact anymore. I’ve been fighting the city and they haven’t done anything.”
Red Phone:
Unfortunately, caller, there’s not much you can do.
If the noise occurs at odd times of morning or night, your best bet is to call police to enforce the local noise ordinance at 846-0350.
Old City Hall clock update
Since it’s last column, the Red Phone got a heads up from Mike Dorn with the City of Gilroy, who advised that the new tenant at Old City Hall has the doors open only at erratic times for construction with no notification to the city and has changed the locks and alarm combination. According to Dorn, the new tenant is rightfully reluctant to give these out to the local volunteer who has agreed to work on and wind the clock. As soon as the tenant establishes regular hours, Dorn said the volunteer will wind the clock and perform necessary maintenance.
In the meantime, Dorn added that he will try to get in to wind the clock. But, he said, since it’s been a couple of months since the clock was maintained, it may not work and it may be necessary to wait until the volunteer has access. Unfortunately the old clock needs constant maintenance and winding to keep it running and in good shape.
