Dear Editor,
In regards to your column on April 30, I wish that you would research your facts prior to printing your own ideas with intent to mislead the reader about the Gilroy Fire Department.
It should be of note that eight fire department personnel would only respond to an EMS emergency if for some extenuating circumstance the emergency required that amount of personnel. The instance you are speaking of was not four paramedics and four firefighters, for a total of eight, on one EMS call. It was a highly trained engine company consisting of four fire personnel who are ALSO paramedic certified. These individuals are also trained in Hazardous Materials (Specialist, Technician and First Responder Levels), Confined Space Rescue, High and Low Angle Rescue, Vehicle Extrication, Incident Command System, CPR, Building Construction, Hydraulics and many other technical skills.
You continue to demean the members of this department to push your own agenda. You take unverified information and print it as fact to create a negative reaction from the public onto the firefighters. This dedicated group of city employees remain committed to performing their jobs to the best of their abilities through these tough economic times. While the city and the Gilroy firefighters remain in discussions, they continue to provide the most effective service, with the limited resources they have while looking out for the best interest of the residents of Gilroy, of which many of us are residents of.
The next time you receive correspondence that appears to be outside of what a normal response is, please call before publishing undocumented and unfactual comments in your paper.
