Morgan Hill’s second annual Jazz on the Green will take place Saturday at the Morgan Hill Community Center’s outdoor amphitheater at Dunne Ave. and Monterey Rd.
The featured band is the award-winning Britton Jazz Band. The middle school band will perform the entire program they are taking on a European tour to Switzerland, Germany and Italy later in June.
The free concert will start at 6:30 p.m. but concertgoers are encouraged to be there early with blankets, lawn chairs, food and drink, because 325 people attended last year and a larger crowd is expected this year.
There will also be a silent auction with wonderful prizes, according to concert organizers. Money made at the event, which is sponsored by Morgan Hill’s Sister City Committee and the Britton Band Boosters, will be used to help the band in their travels. While in Europe, they will play 18 concerts in 21 days. They will play the final concert of the trip on July 12, at Morgan Hill’s Sister City, San Casciano Val di Pesa, in the Tuscany region of Italy.
The band toured Canada last year, and gave a highly acclaimed performance in March at a Dixieland Festival in Monterey. Band members were recently recorded in Reno at Tanglewood Studios by Mike Ederly.
Britton’s Jazz Band is made up of 22 young musicians, and is directed by John P. Bremis and assistant directors Richard Punches and Kirk Berkland.
