The budget, an update on student attendance and approval of new
programs also will be discussed tonight
Gilroy – Javier Aguirre will begin his tenure with the Gilroy Unified School district tonight. Aguirre will be sworn in during open session, which begins at 7:30pm.

Before Aguirre takes his oath of office, the board will honor the late TJ Owens for his service.

The budget, student attendance and approval of some new programs will also be discussed at the meeting.

During the meeting Assistant Superintendent Steve Brinkman will ask the Gilroy Unified School District board to approve the first interim budget report for the 2005-2006 school year.

The board also will be asked to approve the implementation of AdvancePath Academics, a drop-out recovery program at Mt. Madonna High School and Extreme Learning, an academic support program, at South Valley Middle School.

The board also will assemble a steering committee to oversee the construction of Christopher High School and elect a new board president.

At 7pm, before the meeting begins the following employees will be recognized: Gilroy High School kitchen staff, Ascencion Solorsano Middle School sixth and seventh grade math departments and seventh-grade language arts department.

The district office is located at 7810 Arroyo Circle in Gilroy.
