Alfredo “Fred” Tovar, 50, died in Gilroy on Nov. 3, 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Tovar, of Gilroy; son and his wife, Jose and Lori Tovar, of Los Banos; son David Tovar, of Gilroy; son Elliott Tovar, of Gilroy; grand-children, David Tovar, Jr., of Gilroy, and Joshua Tovar, of Los Banos. He is also survived by his parents, Pascual and Herminia Tovar, of Gilroy; grandmother, Chole, of Delano; sisters, Elsa Rodriguez, of Gilroy, Maria Fernandez, of San Jose, Yolanda Gomez, of Los Banos; brothers, Fernando Tovar, of San Jose, Carlos Tovar, of Gilroy, Javier Tovar, of Gilroy, and Raul Tovar, of Gilroy; and nephews and nieces whom he loved like his own children.

Fred was born in Juarez, Mexico 50 years ago and moved to this area at the age of 10. He attended schools in San Jose and moved to Gilroy in 1988. Mr. Tovar was a self-employed painter and owned Tovar’s Auto Body Shop in San Jose. He collected antique furniture and iguanas. Fred also loved helping others.

Evening Service will be held today at 6 p.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. Funeral Service will be Friday a 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy.
