A man charged with following a 10-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl on two separate occasions saw his case continued for four days Thursday afternoon.
Jose David Gonzalez-Raygoza, 26, appeared at the South County Courthouse, but did not enter a plea.
Attorneys did not explain why they asked for the delay, but the public defender said that the charges warranted discussion with the judge.
Court documents reveal Gonzalez-Raygoza confessed to following a 15-year-old, following a girl near Glen View Elementary School that could have been a 10-year-old and following two other young girls on four separate occasions.
Gonzalez-Raygoza was arrested after the 15-year-old and her mother called police because he had appeared three times in their vicinity Nov. 9, including once while the girl was walking home from Gilroy High School about 3 p.m. During this encounter, he pulled up next to her and told her to get into his white truck, but the girl ran home instead.
In court, Gonzalez-Raygoza – a heavyset Hispanic man with a prominent brow – has maintained a puzzled and concerned look.
However, he broke character Thursday afternoon by joking with his fellow inmates and flashing a rare smile.
If convicted on both charges, Gonzalez-Raygoza could spend two years in jail and be fined $10,000. He is scheduled to appear in a San Martin court to enter a plea at 9 a.m. Monday.
