Dear Editor:
At a recent movie I saw a scene in a penguin colony in Antarctica. The penguin chicks had hatched, were only a few days old, all fuzzy, sitting in their nests when in swooped an eagle, grabbed a chick or two and proceeded to devour them. Nearby stood the parents of the chicks, passively looking on while the eagle ate their chicks. There is a strong parallel between the above scene in Antarctica and events in our society today.
Our Supreme Court justices (eagles) piece by piece destroy our Christian heritage while most people stand passively by allowing carnage in our society, of our laws and morals. Without protest!
Recently there was demand by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that the word GOD be removed from the Pledge of Allegiance. In Texas and in Ohio, the Court ruled the Ten Commandments be removed from the courthouse. In Texas the Court overturned a state law making sodomy illegal. This is a gross usurpation of state’s rights.
The 10th Amendment states those powers not delegated to the federal government are reserved for the states. There is nothing in the Constitution restricting a state from setting standards of conduct, morally or otherwise.
These rulings by Supreme Court justices are evidence of a degenerate society. I suggest you read “Death of the West” (that’s us) by Pat Buchannan. Our descent into despair will continue as long as we as citizens sit passively by and allow the corruption of our law and morals.
Please note how thousands flocked to Selma, Alabama when the Civil Rights of the Blacks were jeopardized. Has there been such a demonstration when Judge Moore’s Ten Commandments were ordered our of the courtyard of the courthouse? No!
Let’s look at history for an understanding of today’s dilemma. Western Civilization after the birth of Christ was founded upon Christianity. In that way, Europe, Spain and Russia were quite different from China, India or Africa. In Europe man prospered, women were esteemed, society was guided by natural Law, laws founded upon the Law of Moses, clarified by Jesus Christ. Mr. Blackstone, an English jurist of the 18th Century, wrote the code for English Law. This code was based upon natural law, these based upon the Tenth Commandments given to us in the Old Testament of the Bible.
English Law brought law and order out of chaos, not only in England, but also throughout England’s colonies. English Law enforced by British soldiers and sailors. In India, prior to subjugation by the English, chaos reigned – constant feudal wars, commerce at a standstill. Then came English rule with English Laws and India prospered in relative peace.
In this country at the time of our Founding Fathers, Blackstone’s philosophy and theory of law, based upon natural law, dominated the thinking of our colonies, greatly influenced our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. We were a God fearing nation.
Things began to change around the turn of the Century (1900). Charles Darwin had introduced Evolution into the scientific world. Karl Marx advocated an uprising of the working man against the ruling class, abolition of the church, division of all property equally and abolition of private property. The teachings of Darwin and Marx appealed to the Intelligensia; evolution, no God, no hell. Man was freed of the restraints of religion. Man was his own master.
This rebellious philosophy was embraced by our Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes. Justice Holmes was a prototype of the humanist. He believed in evolution, there is no God, everything is relative, nothing is right nor wrong, only in so far as thinking makes it so (situational ethics).
Holme’s thinking gradually replaced Blackstone’s ideals of law in our courts and our law schools. Blackstone’s English Law based upon natural law and the Ten Commandments was subtly replaced by the teaching of Oliver Wendell Holmes – American Law held no absolutes, rulings were based upon precedent. Truth was relative, no absolutes, the Ten Commandments were obsolete. We set our own rulings based upon what a prior ruling was – rule by precedent.
That in a nutshell is where we stand today, legally, culturally and socially. With no standards we drift, sodomy yesterday was a crime, today it is acceptable behavior. With the Ten Commandments, natural law and English law being discarded by today’s justices, you can see why the presence of the Ten Commandments in the courthouse is an embarrassing situation.
Before the days of Noah the world was without ethics and morality and it was destroyed in a worldwide flood. Sodom and Gomorrah represent a godless society and were destroyed. Israel under King Solomon achieved the height of affluence, military power and prestige then forgot who delivered them from bondage in Egypt and were conquered by a minor nation (Babylon). The Jews scattered all over the world, never again to regain power. Those who ignore the lessons of history court disaster – enough said.
