Dear Editor,
The Gilroy Dispatch has done a yeoman’s job in pointing out the
goodness of Gilroy citizens. Recently there were two articles about
a woman who volunteered to donate one of her kidneys to Donald
Prieto. This is a noble and courageous act that not many have the
courage to carry out.
Dear Editor,
The Gilroy Dispatch has done a yeoman’s job in pointing out the goodness of Gilroy citizens. Recently there were two articles about a woman who volunteered to donate one of her kidneys to Donald Prieto. This is a noble and courageous act that not many have the courage to carry out.
I would like to add to this list of courageous Gilroy citizens.
In the fall of 2003, our daughter was in dire need of a kidney donor. Two members of our family were rejected, her brother Danny and her father for various reasons. A friend of Danny our son, got wind of our plight and without hesitation said one of his kidneys was for our daughter, Julie. After his blood type was determined to be the same as Julie’s, the hospital planned after the holidays to proceed testing. This was early November. He insisted that sooner was better than later, so they started testing in late November, and as fast as Julie’s donor, Mark, completed a test, he would push for the next.
They finally got to the last and most important test in early March. Mark’s test was perfect so surgery was scheduled for late March.
Julie and Mark did not meet until two days before the surgery and not again until three days after the surgery. Mark Elliot’s kidney has worked like a Swiss watch not once causing any concerns.
Thank you Mark Elliot, from the Tomasin and Fiorio family.
M. and I. Fiorio, Gilroy
