Mustangs have balanced scoring attack in 8-0 win over Robert
Louis Stevenson
Pebble Beach – Gilroy’s field hockey team continues to feast on Monterey Bay League foes.

The Mustangs ran their shutout streak to three games Tuesday by defeating host Robert Louis Stevenson 8-0.

“We play good defense by playing good offense,” said GHS co-coach Adam Gemar. “RLS is better than the first two (league) teams we played. It’s just that we have gotten better. Our chemistry is better and we’re now starting to pick things up a bit.”

Amanda Spellman scored the first two goals for the Mustangs (4-2-1 overall, 3-0 in MBL), and then six girls scored the next six goals.

Kelly Perkins and Lindsey Valadez scored first-half goals to put GHS ahead 4-0 at the break.

Megan McAvoy, Dana Schoeneman, Elise Ogle and Erin Magill scored in the second half for Gilroy, which has outscored its league foes 30-0. Laura Spellman finished with three assists and Perkins had two assists.

“We were happy with the play,” Gemar said. “The girls are starting to look more like a team and playing together. It was one of our better passing games.”
