Police responded to an armed robbery today that happened at about 10:30 a.m. at D&S Money Market, located at 281 First St. in Gilroy.

Sgt. Pedro Espinoza with the Gilroy Police Department described the first suspect as a 5-foot-8-inch Hispanic male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans, dark shoes and carrying an unknown make and model long gun. Suspect two is described as a Hispanic male of unknown height and weight, wearing a straw hat, white hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and dark shoes.

They were last seen getting into a Gray Toyota Avalon and leaving the area eastbound on First Street, according to Espinoza.

Both suspects entered the business this morning, made threats to the employees and demanded jewelry, police say. Suspect No. 1 “wielded a long gun,” according to Espinoza.

David Sohrabi, one of the owners at D&S who has lived in Gilroy for 20 years, said the suspects “took a lot of jewelry” from a case they smashed. Sohrabi said he couldn’t estimate how much the alleged robbers made off with.

“It’s pretty messed up,” said Sohrabi over the phone, who was pretty “shaken up” by the incident.

He said the suspects were wearing masks and pointed their weapons at Sohrabi and another woman who is also an owner at D&S.

Sgt. Espinoza says both suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of jewelry. Multiple officers arrived in the area within minutes and conducted a search, but despite their efforts and other investigative techniques, the suspects were not located, Espinoza reports.

No injuries were reported during this robbery.
