Saturday full of Curious George fun: The City of Gilroy Recreation Department along with the Gilroy Youth Commission invites 5 to 8 year olds to participate in a day filled with Curious George activities. The free event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wheeler Community Center at 250 W. Sixth St., and includes reading, watching the movie and arts and crafts. Lunch is provided. Gavilan College hosts benefit production: V-Day Gavilan College 2011 will present a benefit production of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues.” The production will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Gavilan College Theatre at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. All proceeds will benefit Community Solutions in Gilroy and Emmaus House in Hollister. Tickets are available at the Gavilan College Bookstore, Garlic City Books at 7490 Monterey St. and BookSmart at 80 E. Second St. in Morgan Hill. This play is recommended for audiences 18 and older.
Valentine’s Day events
Valentine’s dinner and dance: Ascension Solorsano Middle School will hold a Valentine’s dinner and dance from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday at Eagle Ridge Golf Club, 2951 Club Drive. Enjoy a fun and romantic evening consisting of a three-course chicken dinner, a live band, dancing and a silent auction. Cost: $40. Tickets must be purchased by Feb. 4. LimeLight Valentine’s Day performance: LimeLight Actor’s Theater will present “Love Letters” with a Cabaret musical performance at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Gilroy Arts Center, 7341 Monterey St. Continuing a long tradition of bring your own dinner theater, patrons are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner to the show. Purchase sweets for your sweetheart: The Gilroy Infinity field hockey team will sell DeBrito’s candy apples in front of Raley’s Nob Hill on First Street Friday and Saturday just in time for Valentine’s Day. Profits will benefit the entire team and will assist the individual athlete with fees. Cost: $10 per apple. Details: gilroyfieldhockey.org.
Chocolate and wine pairing at Granary: Four local wineries pair up with four chocolatiers with live violin music in an art gallery like atmosphere from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Granary, 17500 Depot St. Morgan Hill. Cost: $20 for pre-event tickets at the offices of doctors Jon Hatakeyama and Don Nguyen at 370 W. Dunne Ave.Ste 3, Morgan Hill or at Booksmart 80 E. Second St., Morgan Hill. Valentine’s dinner and dance at Elks Lodge: The Gilroy Elks Lodge will hold its Valentine’s Dinner/Dance Saturday at the lodge, 2756 Hecker Pass Highway. Wine and Chocolate event at Solis: Solis Winery will hold its Wine and Chocolate event from noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the winery located at 3920 Hecker Pass Highway.
