Gilroy – The district has determined a frontrunner for assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction and is choosing between two candidates for assistant superintendent of human resources, district staff reported.
Two panels made up of Gilroy Unified School District teachers, administrators, staff and trustees completed two days of interviews for two assistant superintendent positions Friday.
One panel met Thursday with seven candidates for assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, vacant since Olivia Schaad left in March. The panel selected two candidates to come back for another interview, but one declined the offer, said Linda Piceno, assistant superintendent of human resources. An executive committee that includes top district staff and incoming superintendent Deborah Flores will interview the remaining finalist June 20.
Trustee Francisco Dominguez, who was on the panel, said he was pleased with the caliber of the candidates.
“They’re all very well qualified people,” he said.
Another panel met Friday to interview three candidates to replace Piceno as assistant superintendent of human resources when she leaves at the end of June. The panel identified two finalists, who will be interviewed June 20 by the same executive committee that will interview the other finalist.
Neither trustee Rhoda Bress nor board president Tom Bundros – both of whom sat on the panel – could be reached by press time.
The executive committee could have a recommendation for two assistant superintendents for the board of trustees in time for its regular meeting June 21.
